The Story Behind The Rose Program

One Family's Journey Inspired a National Mission

Dr. Thimons' passion for palliative medicine began long before founding The Rose Program.

When his daughter, Kaelyn "Rose," was diagnosed with Stage IV Ewing Sarcoma at just twelve years old, his family experienced firsthand the extraordinary impact that compassionate palliative care can have during life's most difficult moments.

Witnessing the guidance, comfort, and support provided by her palliative care team forever changed his perspective, not only as a physician, but as a father.

After Kaelyn successfully overcame cancer, Dr. Thimons pursued advanced training in Hospice & Palliative Medicine with a clear purpose: to ensure more patients and families receive that same level of support much earlier in their healthcare journey.

In 2019, he founded The Rose Program in honor of his daughter. Today, the organization continues to redefine palliative medicine through physician-led, compassionate care focused on comfort, dignity, communication, and quality of life.
